Frequently asked questions

What muscles do Russian twists work?

Russian twists primarily target the obliques (the muscles on the sides of the waist that rotate the trunk), with the rectus abdominis bracing and the hip flexors holding your torso up. It's one of the better rotational core moves.

Are Russian twists good for love handles?

They strengthen the oblique muscles under love handles, but they won't burn the fat there specifically — combine them with an overall fat-loss approach to see definition.

Should I use a weight?

Bodyweight is plenty to start. Add a light dumbbell or plate once you can control the rotation without swinging — the resistance should come from your core, not momentum.
