Frequently asked questions

What muscles does the farmer's walk work?

The farmer's walk trains the forearms and grip most of all, plus the traps that hold your shoulders under load, and the entire core, which braces to keep you upright. The legs and glutes work to walk under the weight.

Is the farmer's walk good for building muscle?

It's excellent for the forearms, traps and core, and it builds serious grip strength that carries over to deadlifts and rows. As a heavy loaded carry, it also adds conditioning and full-body stability.

Suitcase carry vs farmer's walk?

The farmer's walk loads both sides evenly; the suitcase carry loads one side, forcing the obliques and deep core to resist bending sideways. Both are great — the suitcase version targets the core harder.
